Effective July 1, 2009, the City of Creve Coeur elected to pool its health insurance with other municipalities in the St. Louis Area Insurance Trust (SLAIT) in an effort to reduce rate volatility and gain more control of the plan from year to year.
SLAIT acts as an insurance company for Liability & Workers Compensation and Employee Benefits to manage the rising costs of insurance rates for tax-funded entities. This member-funded pool provides coverage exclusively to professionally managed cities in the St Louis area.
Unlike traditional insurance providers, an insurance pool allows members to secure a portion of the remaining investment income after the trust has paid claims. Funds are distributed to the community of members as approved by the Board of Trustees.
