In the fall of 2012, the Escalante family had a 10 kilowatt solar system installed on their home in Creve Coeur. They report that the installation on their home has generated interest throughout the subdivision in installing solar street lights in the near future. When asked why the family installed the system, Ernesto Escalante explains, "I wanted to save money on my electricity bills and teach my children how to protect our environment."
The Escalantes received a rebate from Ameren Missouri at the time of installation and a 30% tax credit, in addition to the significant savings on their electricity bill each month.
