[ARCHIVED] Millennium Park Renovation Project Begins

Millennium Park Renovation Project

Millennium Park, the city's busiest park located at 2 Barnes West Drive, is undergoing a significant renovation beginning the week of September 18th. Funded by the Parks and Stormwater Sales Tax, this $2.5 million project will feature a new playground that is 1.6 times larger than the existing playground area and a new splash pad that is 2.5 times larger than the existing splash pad area.

The new expanded playground will have a nature theme and include play structures for ages 2-5 and ages 5-12, as well as swings, a climbing structure, and inclusive and independent play features. The nature theme will continue into the new expanded splash pad. The play area will include bubblers, arches and buckets—all enclosed by a fence. Additional renovations will include the construction of a bandstand for summer concerts and other events, site drainage improvements and the creation of a new entry plaza.

This project is phase 1 of a multi-phase project included in the Millennium Park Master Plan. The City Council adopted the Millennium Park Master Plan in 2021, following months of review and input from Creve Coeur residents, City staff and park stakeholders. The plan builds upon the general recommendations of the Creve Coeur Parks Master Plan adopted in 2019.

Construction is scheduled to begin mid-September and completed in summer 2024. During construction, the playground, splash pad, pavilion, Tappmeyer Homestead, and west portion of the walking path in Millennium Park will be closed. The soccer fields, park restrooms, and walking path east of the construction area will remain open.

Update as of 9/8/2023: Fencing around the construction area will be installed the week of 9/11/2023.
